Business Data Analyst

Cover is a fast-growing Insurtech startup making pension and insurance management simple, transparent, and optimized for individuals and businesses.

We are looking for a Business Data Analyst to join our team in a cross-functional role, working closely with our Chief of Staff and department leaders. This is a hands-on analytical role focused on tackling open-ended business questions, investigating core data, and delivering clear, actionable recommendations and scalable reporting across the company.

What You'll Do:

• Lead End-to-End Business Analyses: Frame critical business questions, define metrics, extract and validate data, and present findings and strategic recommendations directly to decision-makers.
• Analyze Performance & Funnels: Investigate conversion funnels, marketing channel performance, meeting scheduling, sales effectiveness, and customer service workflows to uncover growth opportunities.
• Own Reporting & KPI Tracking: Build dashboards, reports, and forecasts against company targets while documenting unified business logic and metric definitions.
• Measure Impact & Experiments: Define success criteria, evaluate process changes and experiments, and provide data-backed guidance on what to scale, improve, or discontinue.
• Ensure Data Quality & Governance: Reconcile data across internal systems, identify and resolve inconsistencies or duplicates, and establish automated data validation checks.

What We're Looking For:

• Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Data Analyst, or similar role, with a proven track record of independently leading analyses.
• Advanced SQL & Databases: Strong hands-on expertise writing complex queries (joins, CTEs, window functions) across databases such as PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MySQL, or comparable systems.
• Data Preparation & Validation: Extensive experience combining multi-source data, resolving duplicates, handling missing values, and reconciling discrepancies across platforms.
• Business Acumen & Critical Thinking: Ability to translate ambiguous business challenges into analytical plans, challenge assumptions, and separate validated conclusions from hypotheses.
• Ownership & Communication: Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to own projects autonomously and present complex findings clearly to non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have:

• Growth & Product Analytics: Experience analyzing marketing or sales data, including cohort retention, funnel optimization, and A/B testing.
• Automation & Modern Tooling: Experience with Python, reporting automation, or AI-assisted analytical workflows.
• Data Architecture: Familiarity with modern data modeling practices and cloud data warehouses.
