The Heron Program’s goal is to harness Israeli cybersecurity talent to challenge the status quo of AI security and advance the field. We do this by granting a select cohort behind-the-scenes access to the current state of AI security and using their combined expertise to explore opportunities and avenues of improvement for the governance and secure deployment of AI.
We’re hiring a program manager to execute the first cohort of the program, with the goal of having the program manager take on a bigger role in managing cohorts and owning the program from start to finish in future cohorts.

- Location: Ramat Gan / Hybrid
- Application Deadline: Rolling basis
- Start Date: Immediate
- Hours: 15-25 hours/week, with an option for a larger position in the future. Availability is required for 1 evening a week during the duration of the program (10-12 weeks).
- Compensation: 80-130 ILS per hour, dependant on experience
- Contact: ezra@effective-altruism.org.il
About Us
Effective Altruism Israel’s mission is to create a better future by helping Israelis maximize the social impact of their resources. Given the importance of deploying frontier AI systems in a secure manner, we’ve received funding from Open Philanthropy to launch the Heron Program, which aims to combine the talent of Israel’s cybersecurity ecosystem with the growing field of AI security.
Responsibilities
As Program Manager, you will join a new program and own the execution and participant experience, from start to finish. You will be responsible for taking the vision and expertise of the founding directors and making it a reality. In future cohorts, conditional on fit, you’ll take ownership of the overall success of the program, including strategy, curriculum, guidance of participants and evaluation.
In the first 6 months, you might do things like:
- Ensure the impact of this selective program by managing brand design, outreach, and admissions.
- Build systems and infrastructure to scale the fellowship while maintaining quality.
- Manage the logistics of program meetings and cultivate a culture of exploration and excitement within the group.
- Provide guidance and support to fellows, helping them have significantly more impact than they otherwise would.
- Evaluate our impact. Track outcomes, gather feedback, and evaluate long-term impact.
- Recruit, develop, and manage program advisors and network of experts to grow the program’s success.
After that, you might:
- Identify and prioritise the top cybersecurity challenges and talent gaps in the deployment of secure AI and improve the program curriculum accordingly
- Build partnerships with top experts, government departments and companies to provide up-to-date access to the state of the field.
- Apply the lessons from the program evaluation and design a world-class experience for participants in the program course.
- Generate potential projects to explore the frontier and assist participants to take concrete steps into the AI security field by tackling real-world challenges.
About You
You might be a particularly good fit for this role if you:
- Share our belief that it’s crucial to ensure AI systems be deployed in a way that’s beneficial to society.
- Are interested in technology and enjoy talking about the development of new technologies and their impact on society.
- Enjoy talking to people and supporting them to maximize their talents.
- Can easily manage program logistics, venues, vendors and partnerships, to ensure the program runs smoothly and at high standards.
- Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Hebrew. The program will be in Hebrew, yet most materials and guest speakers will speak in English. You convey complex ideas clearly and transparently.
It’s a bonus but not required to have:
- Have experience with program management, operations or course design; particularly full ownership of a program.
- Have experience managing logistics for a multi-participant program.
- Experience in public policy or international governance, especially if related to governance of new technologies
- Experience in research, cybersecurity, community building, or (non-profit) entrepreneurship
As Program Manager, you would play an instrumental role in ensuring the success of the pilot program and setting up for future growth while upholding quality, rigor, and impact. If you’re interested in this work, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t feel like you meet each requirement.
Note that the Program Manager does not need to have existing experience in cybersecurity or AI, but should be curious and excited about learning about the field in depth.
