The Role
As a Business Data Analyst at ControlUp, you will partner with teams across Product, Operations, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Finance to turn data into actionable insights. You will play a critical role in shaping the way we measure performance, track KPIs, and drive business outcomes. This role requires strong technical expertise on the backend side of analytics: building robust data models, working with large-scale datasets, and developing reliable pipelines to ensure our business stakeholders always have access to accurate, timely, and well-structured data. At the same time, you’ll translate these complex foundations into clear, visual stories that influence decision-making at every level of the company.
How You’ll Spend Your Day
Designing, building, and maintaining reliable backend data models and pipelines to support reporting and analytics
Identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex datasets to drive actionable insights
Defining and implementing KPIs across different teams
Accompanying product features from tech design through to performance measurement
Translating product and business requirements into analytical logic and creating clear visualizations that “tell the story”
Your Experience and Qualifications
4+ years of experience as a Data Analyst or BI Analyst with strong technical foundations
Advanced SQL skills (query optimization, joins, CTEs, window functions) and experience with large, complex datasets
Proven experience in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing (designing tables, optimizing schemas, ensuring data reliability)
Hands-on experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Redash, or similar
Ability to translate complex technical processes into clear, business-ready insights
Experience in fast-paced, high-intensity work environments
Strong communication and collaboration skills—comfortable working with multiple stakeholders
A proactive, detail-oriented, can-do attitude, with the ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Python or another scripting language (for automation, advanced analytics, or ETL workflows)
B.S in one of the following: Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field
