Senior FPGA Engineer & RTL Lead (Digital Radar / Counter-UAS)

Position Type: Full-time, Hands-On Individual Contributor (Solo Tech Lead)

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are a defense tech start up, seeking a Senior FPGA Architect & RTL Lead to take full ownership of our FPGA architecture and logic design. As the sole technical authority in this domain, you will architect, implement, and bring up complex high-speed logic and real-time DSP pipelines from initial prototype boards through to custom Alpha/Beta hardware.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• End-to-End Ownership: Lead the complete FPGA development lifecycle, from specifications, VHDL/Verilog RTL design, and simulation to synthesis, timing closure, lab bring-up, and system integration.

• Multi-Gigabit Data Streaming: Design and optimize multi-gigabit data paths handling massive throughput from multi-antenna RF arrays.

• Real-Time DSP & Beamforming: Implement real-time signal processing algorithms, FFTs, channelizers, and Digital Beamforming (DBF) architectures.

• Interface Integration: Interface with high-speed ADCs/DACs and implement high-speed protocols (JESD204B/C, PCIe, DDR, SerDes, Multi-Gigabit Ethernet).

• Cross-Domain Collaboration: Work closely with RF, hardware, algorithm, and embedded software engineers to deliver an integrated, high-reliability platform.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience: 10–15+ years of hands-on RTL development experience (VHDL / Verilog / SystemVerilog).

• High-Speed Mastery: Proven track record in designing multi-gigabit high-speed interfaces and handling high-throughput data pipelines (JESD204B/C, PCIe, DDR, SerDes).

• Silicon & Tools: Deep expertise in Intel (Altera) FPGAs (Arria 10, Stratix, etc.) and Intel Quartus Prime, OR extensive Xilinx experience with a strong willingness/ability to work on Altera platforms.

• Real-Time Signal Processing: Practical background in Real-Time DSP, RF sensing, radar, or satellite communication systems.

• Hardware Bring-Up: Strong lab skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SignalTap/ChipScope, and QuestaSim.

• Mindset: A true hands-on expert with a "big head" approach-capable of taking full ownership, driving complex projects independently, and solving tough technical challenges from scratch.

• Education: B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

NICE TO HAVE:

• Direct experience with Digital Beamforming (DBF) or multi-channel antenna processing.

• Background in satellite communications (SatCom), military radar systems, or high-speed data center communication infrastructure.

• Experience with multi-FPGA system architectures.
