Quality Assurance Engineer

Overview

At Arpalus, recently acquired by Instacart,  we build AI-powered computer vision and AR technology that turns a phone camera into a precise sensing tool — real-time object detection, scanning, and spatial understanding shipped as a mobile product. Our tech runs on real devices, in real environments, under messy real-world conditions.

We're a small, fast-moving team and we're looking for a QA engineer who already works that way too.

You'll own quality for our computer vision models, mobile SDK and the app that exercises it in iOS, across a long tail of devices, and across the genuinely hard problem of testing computer vision and AR that doesn't behave like a deterministic CRUD app. You'll do hands-on manual and exploratory testing today, and steadily build the automated coverage, tooling, and harnesses that let us move faster tomorrow.

About the Job 

• You will own the quality of our AI models and iOS app.
• You’ll leverage GenAI and Claude Code to streamline the testing process
• In this fast-paced and constantly changing environment, you will make sure that our models and app keep getting better 
• You will Test real CV/AR behavior on real devices: detection accuracy, tracking stability, performance, and degradation across hardware, lighting, and conditions.
• You’ll reproduce, isolate, and clearly document issues — then work directly with engineers to fix them

About You

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong technical foundation - You understand how mobile apps and SDKs actually work, and are comfortable in the terminal, in CI, and even in a codebase.
• AI-native, on a technical level. You already use agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent) as a core part of how you build and test.
• Fast learner who adapts. New stack, new tool, new workflow, new domain — you ramp quickly and don't need a paved road to be productive.
• Self-directed. You take an ambiguous goal and turn it into a plan and results without hand-holding. You ask sharp questions, then run.
• Drive. You care that the product is actually good, and you push until it is.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing mobile SDKs, computer vision, AR, or other ML-driven / non-deterministic systems.
• Experience in automatic QA with or without GenAI
• Test automation frameworks for mobile (Appium, XCTest, Espresso, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfort with real-device test labs, performance profiling, or building internal QA tooling.
