• You’re a backend engineer at heart, but a leader in practice.
• You know how to take a team with you - aligning people, processes, and priorities toward outcomes that matter.
• You’re comfortable being the bridge between engineering, product, and senior leadership, making sure everyone pulls in the same direction.
• You love clean, efficient backend architecture and enjoy shaping technical strategy just as much as writing code.
• You thrive on ownership, clarity, and building systems (and teams) that scale.
• You’re curious, collaborative, and like solving tough problems without taking yourself too seriously.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers - fostering growth, clarity, and technical excellence.
• Define technical direction and architectural decisions in partnership with senior engineering leadership.
• Design and build scalable backend systems that power real-time interactions across our platform.
• Own projects end-to-end - from design and planning to implementation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Drive engineering quality, predictability, and execution across the team’s roadmap.
• Collaborate closely with Product to translate business needs into simple, robust technical solutions.
• Be the connective tissue between the team and leadership — ensuring alignment, visibility, and clear priorities.
• Create an environment where engineers can do their best work, balancing autonomy with strong execution.

What you bring:

• 5+ years of backend production experience using Kotlin, Java, or Scala (Kotlin is a strong plus).
• 2 years of experience managing or leading an engineering team.
• Experience in fast-moving startup environments where ownership runs deep and things ship fast.
• Solid hands-on experience with both NoSQL and relational databases.
• Experience with AWS and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Bonus: experience with Rust, CI/CD, ML/NLP, or DevOps practices.
• Extra credit: experience building or orchestrating multi-agent AI systems (e.g., LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen) to coordinate LLM-based workflows.
• Strong communication skills and solid English - written and spoken.
