Backend Engineer – AI Systems & Human-Robot Coordination

Overview

Deliverz.ai builds backend systems that control and coordinate autonomous delivery robots operated by third party vendors in real world environments such as hospitals and enterprise campuses.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to work on the application level control layer that translates business intent into safe predictable robot behavior using external robot APIs.

This role focuses on orchestration correctness state management and handling the realities of external systems rather than infrastructure or model development.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain backend services responsible for mission orchestration and robot command flows.

Implement state machines that manage mission assignment execution pauses retries and completion using third party robot APIs.

Handle unreliable or delayed robot responses with explicit timeouts retries and recovery logic

.Integrate human in the loop steps such as confirmations handoffs and exception handling.

Define and maintain clear API contracts between backend services mobile applications and robot vendors.

Collaborate with robotics and frontend teams to align system behavior and expectations.

Ensure safe predictable behavior in mission critical operations.

Requirements

Strong experience building application level backend systems with complex state and asynchronous behavior.

Proficiency in TypeScript or Python.

Experience integrating with third party APIs or external systems with imperfect reliability.

Ability to design and reason about state machines and edge cases.

Comfort working close to operational logic rather than infrastructure.

Experience with robotics IoT or automation systems is a strong advantage.
