About the Role

FireDome is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical engineering domain within our R&D organization. In this key role, you will design, develop, and implement advanced mechanical systems that form the backbone of FireDome’s automated wildfire defense technology.

This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge, mission-driven engineering, combining robotics, automation, and large-scale outdoor systems. The position requires strong technical leadership, hands-on design excellence, and a deep understanding of multidisciplinary systems operating in challenging environments.

You will lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, guiding designs from concept through field deployment and ensuring that every component of our system meets the highest standards of performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and development of mechanical systems and components for FireDome’s wildfire defense products.
• Guide and mentor mechanical engineers through the full design cycle, from concept and simulation to prototype and production.
• Collaborate with electrical, control, and software teams to ensure seamless integration across disciplines.
• Conduct structural, thermal, and kinematic analyses, validating performance and durability under real-world conditions.
• Participate in fieldwork and system testing, supporting deployments and collecting feedback for continuous design improvement.
• Manage design documentation, CAD models, and production drawings to maintain version control and traceability.
• Support DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFX (Design for Excellence) processes in collaboration with manufacturing partners.

Requirements

• B.Sc. (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering.
• 12+ years of hands-on experience in the mechanical design and development of dynamic, electro-mechanical, multidisciplinary, and automated systems.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset that inspires teamwork, shared ownership, and accountability across engineering and operations teams.
• Proven ability to take designs from concept to working prototypes and production.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) for 3D modeling and design documentation.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, motion, actuation, and materials.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing innovation with execution.
• Proven ability to take designs from concept to working prototypes and production.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale systems and structural components.
• Familiarity with electrical and control systems, and integration across hardware domains.
• Practical experience in multidisciplinary system development and field testing.
• Exposure to ruggedized or outdoor products, robotics, or automation systems.
• Experience leading an R&D mechanical engineering team.
