Founding Engineer

Founding Engineer - Legaltech Startup

We're looking for a Founding Engineer (Full-Stack - AI-focused) to join our legaltech startup, led by a seasoned entrepreneur with a history of successful exits. This is a unique opportunity to build a product from the ground up using cutting-edge LLM and agentic technologies at an early-stage but well-funded startup!

You'll play a key role in shaping the technology and developing a product that will transform the legal industry. We already have design partnerships with leading law firms who are eagerly awaiting the product.

What You'll Do

• Design and architect core platform components that will serve as our technical foundation
• Develop LLM-based and agentic features from design to production, including:

-Craft and optimize high-quality prompts to enhance application functionality and output -quality for legal workflows

-Develop datasets and benchmarks to evaluate and monitor LLM-based applications in the legal domain

-Manage complex pipelines with large amounts of unstructured data

• Stay up to date with state-of-the-art developments in Large Language Models and apply relevant advancements to legal applications
• Make key technical decisions that shape our product direction and infrastructure
• Build and ship critical features independently from concept to production
• Establish engineering practices and technical standards that will scale with our team, leveraging AI coding practices

What You'll Bring to the Table

• 5+ years of production software development experience, at least some at startups
• Experience with NestJS, React, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or similar technologies
• Proficiency in LLM application concepts such as prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, tool calling, and agentic frameworks
• Hands-on experience developing datasets, evaluation benchmarks, and performance monitoring for LLM applications
• Exceptional sense of ownership – you take full responsibility for the quality, performance, and success of everything you build
• Ability to ship products independently, driving technical initiatives from conception to deployment
• Self-directed work style with comfort navigating the ambiguity of an early-stage startup

Bonus Points

• Familiarity with LangGraph or other LLM-based frameworks for building agentic systems
• Strong focus on data and data quality, with ability to optimize data flows for cutting-edge LLM applications
• Legal domain experience or interest – prior experience in a legaltech startup or are passionate about transforming how legal work gets done
