Engineering Team Leader - AI Platform

xpander.ai is an open-source, multi-framework platform for building and managing AI Agents. Our platform handles the full software development lifecycle for enterprise teams that are building AI Agents, including agent state and memory, tool calling, visual workbench, agent to agent handoffs, MCP, agent triggering, and much more.

We are growing and are looking for a key member of the team, that will build and lead our core engineering team.

About the Role

The role requires strong background in full-stack development, a passion for building cutting edge tech (alongside mundane things, when necessary) and the ability to hire, grow and lead a world-class engineering team. You'll start hands-on by designing and developing features for our platform, and gradually focus more on leading, mentoring, and scaling the team, as you ourself also grow into a leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Hire the strongest engineering talent in Israel to build your fantastic team.
• Lead and mentor the core engineering team: backend and frontend engineers delivering core features for the xpander.ai platform.
• Design and implement platform capabilities end-to-end in collaboration with the product and design team members.
• Act as the code factory manager - from epic to feature launch.
• Provide technical guidance, establish best practices, and ensure code quality through reviews and standards.
• Own the developer experience, production stability, and SDLC.

Qualifications

• Have a startup-oriented mindset or be really interested in developing the startup muscle: no blockers, just solutions.
• 8+ years of experience as a full-stack or backend developer, with strong proficiency in Python, as well as experience with TypeScript and JavaScript.
• 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams, ideally in a startup or in a high-performance “pocket” in an enterprise company. Need to have led backend and frontend engineers.
• Spent some time as a generalist, so it’s easier to grasp and lead projects and tasks around DevOps, integrations, cloud infrastructure, authentication, databases, storage and queues, platforms such as Vercel and Supabase, and others.
• Demonstrated ability to support production systems and deliver features to real-world users.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
• Capable of managing priorities and trade-offs to keep projects on track.
• Team-first mindset, but comfortable taking ownership and working independently.

Bonus Points

• Passion and experience with AI Agents, or at least other types of LLM based applications.
• Loves doing booth duty at conferences - talking to attendees, answering questions, and showing off the product.
