Backend Team Leader

About the Role: We are looking for a talented and hands-on Backend Team Leader to lead our Engineering team.

As a leader, you will guide a team of 4 engineers, balancing short-term needs with long-term objectives. You will work closely with the Group Manager, VP of Engineering, and Tech Lead to ensure the team meets goals while maintaining high standards of product quality.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on leadership while being deeply involved in backend development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of 4 backend developers
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (VP of Engineering, Tech Lead, PM) to prioritize and manage development tasks and product releases
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical support to team members
• Oversee architecture and technical solutions, encouraging innovation and the development of edge technologies
• Ensure high-quality code, following best practices and Agile methodologies
• Design, build, test, and maintain efficient and reusable Java code
• Manage technical challenges and solve problems efficiently
• Actively participate in planning, coordinating, and executing product features
• Maintain product quality and collaborate in a cooperative work environment

Requirements:

• BSc in Computer Science or a related field
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role, managing teams within Agile methodologies
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Backend development, specifically with Java
• Strong experience with Kafka and Docker (must-have)
• Proficient in SQL
• Hands-on experience with object-oriented programming
• Strong leadership abilities, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and train your team
• Ability to work independently while leading a small team (no large-scale management experience needed)
• Experience with Python is a plus
• Familiarity with DBs (Postgres, Mongo, Cassandra)
• Knowledge of Nomad, Consul, networking, and security is a plus
• Experience with Cloud environments (AWS) is an advantage
• Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal)
