Our laboratory investigates the potential and risks of underground carbon sequestration as a solution to mitigate climate change. We seek a student to research the mechanics of hydraulic fracturing in porous rock using experiments and computer models. The research involves specialized experiments that incorporate image processing, microscopy, ultra-high-speed photography (24,000 frames per second), the creation of transparent artificial rock that deforms under low pressures, and the application of external axial and triaxial strain on the sample.

The ideal candidate should possess a solid background in either physics, mechanical engineering, material engineering, or geology.
