About Us

The assembly of autonomous self-replicating biological systems that exhibit the essential characteristics of life represents a great scientific challenge. In our group, we are developing experimental strategies to ultimately move toward the assembly of such artificial living systems (Learn more about our work: https://levy.net.technion.ac.il/).

Our general approach involves designing minimal DNA-based cellular systems that recapitulate gene expression from dense phases of DNA in confined environments, and mimic specific cellular processes (Levy et al., Science Advances 2020).

We employ a multidisciplinary approach, integrating synthetic biology, soft matter physics, on-chip technologies, and surface science to assemble and study these synthetic cellular systems.

Beyond fundamental science, our platforms also drive the development of innovative biotechnological and biomedical applications.

Qualifications for MSc/PhD/Postdoc Candidates

• A BSc/MSc/PhD in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience in molecular biology techniques, fluorescence microscopy, microfluidics, or cleanroom work is an advantage.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, strong communication skills, critical thinking, perseverance, and a high degree of motivation and creativity.
