Director - Silicon Photonics

NewPhotonics is disrupting data center processing with novel photonic engines that solve power and performance challenges. We are looking for a Director - Silicon Photonics to join our dynamic team and play a key role in shaping the technological landscape of our organization. The successful candidate for this position should have a track record of strength and aptitude relevant to the following areas:

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow the silicon photonics development team, focusing on microarchitecture, co-design, design verification, and physical design
• Provide technical guidance and make critical decisions on chip architecture, design methodologies, verification, and physical implementation
• Oversee backend development, including EDA tooling and LVS/DRC
• Deep understanding of advanced process technologies and their impact on design and manufacturing
• Ensure thorough processes are in place for chip sign-off, including detailed reviews of design, layout, and testing procedures to guarantee high-quality manufacturability and reliable final products
• Design, model and layout silicon photonic circuits and components.
• Focus on design for manufacturability; determine the performance impact across process corners, and thermal environment.
• Perform full-parametric and scripted simulations to determine novel design improvements.
• Analyze measurement data sets to determine device performance trends and include learnings in your designs and models.
• Build and maintain relationships with foundries, IP providers, and EDA tool vendors
• Work with the photonics test team in defining requirements for device characterization, debug and validation.
  
  

• MS in Electrical Engineering / Computer System Engineering or related field
• 15 years’ experience of hands-on experience leading the design of multiple analog/mixed-signal/photonic chips and their tape-outs
• Hands-on experience with optoelectronic device simulations and measurements.
• Strong understanding of planar waveguide optics, both passive components such as waveguides, multiplexers/demultiplexers, tapers, couplers and modulators.
• Experience with advanced packaging technologies like 2.5D/3D integration and chiplets -an advantage
