What we do?

Our R&D department is responsible for the backbone of the entire development process and infrastructure. We design, implement, and maintain the processes, methodologies, and technologies that allow and support the development of Resident's platform while upholding high standards of quality, performance, security, availability, and agility.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a professional Engineering Manager who will spend 70% on hands-on tasks and 30% on managerial responsibilities. You will be responsible for enhancing performance and scalability and monitoring our e-commerce platform's front end. This role is essential for maintaining a high-performing, user-friendly web experience while ensuring stability through proactive monitoring and data-driven decision-making.

As a key leader in our R&D team, you will work closely with frontend and backend developers, product managers, and leadership to improve performance (Core Web Vitals), optimize external integrations, and enhance monitoring capabilities using Looker and Datadog. Additionally, you will act as the team lead and the Director's backup, ensuring continuity in technical leadership when needed and keeping the release train going.

What you'll be doing:

Hands-On Technical Execution (70%)

Be part of the day-to-day sprint task development
Lead the development and optimization of frontend applications using React and Next.js.
Improve Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS) to enhance SEO and user experience
Work closely with backend developers to optimize API performance and data fetching
Monitor and analyze real-time performance metrics using Looker and Datadog, implementing proactive improvements
Ensure scalability, maintainability, and security of front-end applications
Collaborate on external integrations (third-party services, analytics, APIs) to enhance platform capabilities

Team & Project Management (30%)

Work with the team lead, product managers, and stakeholders through plan development efforts and prioritization
Act as a gatekeeper for releases, ensuring smooth and controlled deployments
Establish and enforce front-end best practices, code quality standards, and testing strategies
Act as a backup for the team lead during absences, taking over sprint planning, technical guidance, and developer support
Help mentor and support developers while driving technical excellence across the team

Data-Driven Monitoring & Incident Management

Implement and refine monitoring dashboards using Looker and Datadog to track frontend performance and business KPIs
Set up proactive alerts and anomaly detection to prevent incidents before they impact users
Own critical incident management processes, reducing downtime and improving resolution speed

Qualifications:

5+ years of hands-on experience with React/Next.js, developing high-performance, scalable web applications
2+ years of experience leading engineering teams (as a team lead or EM)
Expertise in Frontend Development (React, Next.js) with a strong focus on performance optimization
Deep understanding of Core Web Vitals and techniques to improve page speed and UX
Experience with API integrations, server-side rendering (SSR), and static site generation (SSG)
Familiarity with backend concepts (Node.js, API performance, caching) to ensure smooth frontend-backend collaboration
Strong experience in monitoring tools like Looker and Datadog for performance and business insights
Proven ability to balance hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities
Strong communication skills, able to work closely with developers, product managers, and leadership
Experience with incident management and crisis resolution
Ability to mentor and guide developers, fostering a culture of learning and growth
