Research Scientist - Biomaterials Chemist 

MadeRight, a young start-up that harnesses fungi to create sustainable materials, is looking for a highly skilled CHEMIST to join us and be part of our chemistry development team! The company seeks team members who are bold, productive, resourceful, and imaginative.

Primary work will focus on material extraction, purification, characterization, and data collection. This position is responsible for assisting in all aspects of experimentation, which may extend to data analysis and interpretation. This position will also support overall research operations with routine tasks and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory experiments and process optimization
• Develop and execute analytical protocols for characterizing products and biomass, ensuring accurate determination of product purity and impurity profiles   
• Analyze data and interpret results to inform process development
• Develop working protocols and review technical reports
• Manage lab stock of reagents and consumables related to workstreams

Qualifications

• MSc in Organic Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry/Material Science – Mandatory
• Hands-on experience in chemistry laboratory work – Mandatory
• Experience in polymers and biopolymers chemistry – Advantage

Required Skills

·        Clear communication on timelines, deliverables, and observations

• Comply with company lab policies and procedures, ensuring rigorous documentation and integrity of all research observations and results
• Familiarity with organic chemistry laboratory techniques, including chemical reaction, filtration, phase separation, and precipitation
• Familiarity with analytical chemistry laboratory techniques, including Colorimetry assays for determining various compound quantity
• Familiarity with statistical methods, design of experiments, and data analysis
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail
• Critical thinking skills
• Technical writing experience
• Basic ability to use data management software

Desired Skills

• Passion for harnessing biomaterials designed for real-life applications
• Theoretical and hands-on knowledge of analytical chemistry characterization techniques, including FTIR, NMR, GPC, TGA, DSC, Mechanical properties
• Experience with materials extraction from biomass
• Familiarity with polymer properties and processing techniques
• Comfortable learning quickly when faced with unfamiliar tasks and new tools
