About Our Research

Our laboratory is developing synthetic platforms for autonomous assembly, manipulation, regulation, and ultimately self-replication of microstructures (Science Advances 2020 - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.aaz6020).

The remarkable ability of nature to assemble cells that grow, function, learn, and multiply, all by highly regulated processes, is honed by millions of years of evolution. Replicating these abilities, even in much simpler forms, poses a stimulating challenge to researchers across various disciplines. Inspired by this challenge, our laboratory focuses on assembling autonomous artificial units that encapsulate some of the fundamental features of living cells. This pursuit is a crucial step toward the development of artificial living matter.

Project and learning opportunities

This interdisciplinary project encompasses a wide array of research fields, including fluid mechanics, soft matter physics, on-chip technologies, surface science, biochemistry, and synthetic biology. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art automated systems to ensure robust experimentation and high-throughput data collection. Our experimental approach is enriched with the development of theoretical models.

As a member of the Levy Lab, you will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of techniques and disciplines. We encourage individualized training, allowing researchers to learn and excel in areas such as molecular biology, fluorescence microscopy, microfluidics, optoelectronics, microfabrication, lithography, and more.

Qualifications:

• For Ph.D. candidates: A Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering, or related disciplines.
• For Postdoctoral Researchers: A Ph.D. in a relevant field with a proven track record of research excellence. If your expected graduation is within the next 6-12 months, please apply before your graduation.
• Experience in molecular biology techniques, fluorescence microscopy, microfluidics, or cleanroom work is an advantage.
• We are looking for creative, motivated, and independent individuals with critical thinking, and a desire to be part of a collaborative team.
