Database Administrator

The point-of-sale (POS) solution consists of devices deployed at our customer’s locations that interact with cloud-based services. With over 30,000 customers across the US, our company seeks a dedicated resource focused design, configuration, scalability, and performance tuning of the Postgres RDS instances that are core to our cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities: Move large database to new AWS account Split database into acorn and regular ops. Further splitting by function, as needed, including choosing alternative dbs Performance evaluation of current db Review/coord with devs about errors/warnings in logs Continuing performance monitoring/tuning/optimization Improve existing queries Perform reviews of new queries Manage users/roles/permissions/access Create a load testing framework Schema review/design/management/change management Required Skills/Experience: Responsibility for a large AWS RDS PostgreSQL database. Expectation is for experience with tasks such as: Advanced knowledge of SQL for querying, optimization, and troubleshooting new partitions/triggers/seq etc Upgrade planning and execution Monitoring and alerts Capacity planning Data archiving/migrations/import/export/etc Database backup/recovery Database documentation Reporting and analytics support Security management Automate maintenance tasks (audit,fixes,reindexing,etc) Disaster recovery planning Cost management Desired Skills/Experience: Proficiency in languages like shell scripting for automating repetitive tasks Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting including ability to diagnose and resolve database issues Promptly and strong analytical skills to conduct root cause analysis and prevent recurring issues Ability to clearly communicate database issues and updates to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficient in prioritizing tasks, managing multiple projects, and maintaining documentation.
