The opportunity

Aura from Unity is a large-scale mobile platform embedded on hundreds of millions of devices, delivering personalized content — news, video, and apps — to users at the moments that matter most.

Our AI team builds content recommendation systems for news and video at massive scale, with challenges that are fun and far from trivial.

We work with advanced architectures across multimodal signals - text, video, and behavioral data - and, naturally, with GenAI and a growing fleet of agents.

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist who loves what they do: a strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, and software engineering, a passion for modern AI-accelerated development, and the drive to own research, design, and end-to-end delivery of ML systems that ship to millions.

What you'll be doing

Research, train, and deploy state-of-the-art recommender systems using deep learning and GenAI
Own projects end-to-end — from business idea through modeling, experimentation, and production deployment — including the parts that involve aligning other people around them
Build online, scalable models and serving solutions that leverage massive datasets and reach hundreds of millions of users
Apply multimodal and sequence-modeling techniques to real product problems where model improvements translate directly to business impact
Lead cross-team initiatives, improve the tooling the team works with every day, and mentor others as you go
Collaborate with ML experts, big data engineers, product managers, and developers across the organization to solve complex problems

What we're looking for

5+ years of hands-on experience as a data scientist or applied ML researcher/engineer
A builder's mindset: you've taken ML projects from idea to production, across domains and problem types, and you care about what ships
Strong Python and PyTorch skills, with solid grounding in deep learning theory
Strong analytical skills and product sense — you can frame a business problem and choose the right ML solution for it, not just the fanciest one
A track record of being the person others come to: you've guided less experienced teammates and driven projects that spanned more than one person

You might also have

Experience with applied recommender systems, ranking, or ads/marketplace ML
Experience with large-scale training and serving (distributed training, low-latency inference)
Experience with GenAI/LLM applications, embeddings, or multimodal models
Familiarity with JAX or other ML frameworks beyond PyTorch

This range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions). The final offer amount will depend on several factors, including geographic location and the candidate’s relevant experience, professional background, and skill set.
