Frontend Platform Team Leader

As the Frontend Platform Team Leader, you will lead a talented team responsible for optimizing and scaling the company’s frontend development. Your team will own the CI/CD processes for frontend development across mono-repositories and poly-repositories, ensuring seamless developer experiences. Additionally, you will manage and evolve Cloudinary’s design system, empowering teams to deliver consistent, high-quality user interfaces efficiently.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the R&D organization to gather feedback, prioritize needs, and define a roadmap that addresses both technical challenges and business objectives. By monitoring and analyzing the impact of your team’s work, you’ll ensure continuous improvement and alignment with company goals.

As part of your role, you will collaborate with the company’s architecture forum to align on technical direction, ensure compatibility with broader system designs, and contribute to strategic architectural decisions.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will actively contribute to code, solve complex technical challenges, and mentor team members while driving the vision and roadmap for frontend tooling, build processes, and system architecture.
Key Responsibilities - Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor a team of senior engineers, fostering innovation and growth.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g. UX, DevOps) on strategy and priorities.
Champion best practices in frontend development, testing, and analytics.
Build & CI/CD Ownership
Design and optimize CI/CD pipelines for mono-repos and poly-repos.
Improve build tools and processes (e.g., Rspack, NX) for better performance and reliability.
Testing & Analytics
Implement unit testing (e.g., Vitest, Jest) and end-to-end testing (Playwright).
Define CI-integrated testing workflows and utilize tools for A/B testing and analytics (e.g., Split.io, Google Analytics).
Frontend Tooling
Maintain and enhance frontend technologies (React, TypeScript).
Optimize development environments for frontend engineers.
Design System Ownership
Oversee Cloudinary’s design system to ensure a consistent user experience.
Collaborate with design/product teams and drive adoption across the company.
Required Skills & Experience - Technical Expertise:
Deep understanding of React, and their ecosystem such as state management libraries - 5+ years of experience in frontend development with one of the major frameworks.
Proficiency in frontend build tools like Webpack, Rspack, ts-compiler, lint tools.
Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, JS (ES6+), and TS.
Strong expertise in architecting frontend infrastructure.
Experience with testing frameworks such as Vitest, Jest, and end-to-end testing tools like Playwright.
Familiarity with Google Analytics and A/B testing platforms like Split.io.
Experience with design systems, component libraries, and scalable UI architectures such as micro-frontend module federation.
Strong understanding of modern CI/CD pipelines and workflows for frontend development.
Leadership
Proven a 3+ years experience leading engineering teams, with a focus on mentorship, collaboration, and driving technical excellence.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
Hands-On Skills
A passion for coding and debugging with the ability to dive deep into technical details.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, particularly for optimizing build processes and developer workflows.
A versatile hands-on manager with a “getting-things-done” attitude.
Bonus Skills
Experience working with monorepos (e.g., Nx, Turborepo) or polyrepo setups.
Familiarity with observability tools or platforms.
Understanding of cloud infrastructure and technologies (AWS, GCP).
Familiarity with CND Providers for caching (Fastly, cloudflare).
Previously leading a platform team, as a manager or a frontend tech lead.
