BI & Data Engineer Team Lead

You will take a crucial part of Papaya’s BI & Data Engineering group - a key pillar supporting the company’s growth, decision making, and operational excellence.

We’re looking for a hands-on Team Lead to lead a talented group of BI & Data Engineers, working across the Finance, Payments and CX domains, together with integrated work on Papaya’s Platform Features Roadmap.

Requirements:

2+ years of experience leading a BI / Data Engineering team.
5+ years of hands-on experience in BI & DE environments.
Excellent communication skills and ability to manage relationships with senior stakeholders.
Strong analytical mindset and proven problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with the modern data stack, including:
SQL, Python, DWH design & modeling, Airflow (or similar ETL orchestration), Looker (or other BI tools), and cloud environments (GCP preferred).
BSc / BA in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or an equivalent field.
Experience managing delivery processes, tracking progress, and communicating outcomes (Jira or similar).
Experience with 24/7 production systems and real-time analytics - Advantage

Responsibilities:

Lead and empower a team of skilled BI & DE, ensuring clarity, accountability, and impact.
Own delivery of data solutions for Finance, Payments and CX domains.
Taking an active role on Papaya’s Platform Features Roadmap, responsibility for meeting deadlines and supporting business needs
Plan and manage the team’s work using agile methods and sprint structure (Jira or similar).
Maintain transparent workflows, priorities, and measurable progress.
Oversee data quality, monitoring, and validation processes - ensuring trust in every data endpoint.
Collaborate with BA, Product, and R&D teams to translate business needs into data-ready solutions that ensure future analytical flexibility.
Challenge and refine requirements with a focus on business value and cost-benefit impact, ensuring every effort drives meaningful results.
Balance short-term business needs with long-term data architecture and efficiency improvements.
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and focus on value - always seeking the most effective way to drive business outcomes.
Operate confidently under pressure and tight timelines, while partnering with senior executives and business owners.
Contribute to the broader BI & DE group strategy and best practices, shaping how we grow as a group and as a discipline.
