Backend Platform AI Engineer

abra R&D is looking for a Backend Platform AI Engineer. We’re looking for a Backend Platform Engineer to join us in building a next-generation database from scratch, designed specifically for AI Agents. This role focuses on building the developer-facing platform around the core database engine — enabling smooth integration with AI agent frameworks (such as LangChain, PydanticAI, and others), as well as external systems through connectors, plugins, and SDKs. What you’ll do: Design and develop MCP APIs and core backend services Build and maintain SDKs (Python, TypeScript, Go, Rust) Develop connectors and plugins for AI agent platforms (LangChain, PydanticAI, and others) Design clean, scalable, and developer-friendly APIs Own the integration infrastructure (authentication, streaming, event pipelines, webhooks) Build and optimize real-time data flows between agents, services, and the database Work closely with database engineers to expose powerful capabilities via well-designed APIs Ensure reliability, observability, and high performance of all external-facing systems 5+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering Strong proficiency in at least one of: Python, TypeScript, Go, or Rust Experience designing and building production-grade APIs and SDKs Strong understanding of distributed systems and service architecture Experience with event-driven systems, streaming, or real-time architectures Solid understanding of API design best practices (REST/gRPC, versioning, developer experience) Strong Plus Experience building developer platforms or public SDKs Familiarity with AI/LLM ecosystems (LangChain, agents, tool calling) Experience with plugin architectures or extensibility frameworks Background in data platforms, databases, or infrastructure tooling Experience with async systems, concurrency, and high-throughput services
