Centrical grew out of the business intelligence (BI) software segment. BI let managers know how employees were doing, but it typically did not convey how to turn manager-led performance insights into employee performance actions.

You’ll work day to day with R&D and the Data team, embedded in the development lifecycle, not in a silo. This is a role with real autonomy and real impact: the decisions you make about
schema, tuning, and capacity are felt directly by enterprise customers at scale.

The role includes participation in an on-call rotation for production database incidents.

What you’ll do:

• Own the health, performance, and availability of our MSSQL production estate.

• Design and tune schemas, indexes, queries, and stored procedures for large-scale, high-concurrency workloads.

• Lead HA/DR: backup and restore strategy, replication, failover, recovery testing.

• Manage and optimize Amazon Redshift clusters, including distribution/sort key design, WLM, and query performance.

• Own schema versioning and migration pipelines integrated into CI/CD (we use Flyway).

• Partner with R&D on schema design, migrations, and release readiness; review data access patterns before they reach production.

• Build monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning so problems surface before customers see them.

• Drive automation of routine DBA work, and define standards and runbooks.

• Use AI tools (Claude, Copilot, and similar) as part of daily work: generating and reviewing SQL, building automation scripts, drafting runbooks, and accelerating troubleshooting.

Requirements:

• 6+ years as an MSSQL DBA, at expert level: query optimization, execution plans, indexing strategy, locking and concurrency, T-SQL.

• Proven experience with large-scale databases: high volume, high concurrency, multi terabyte, and the tuning that comes with that scale.

• Hands-on production experience with Amazon Redshift, or a comparable MPP warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery) with willingness to go deep on Redshift.

• Schema versioning and migration tooling integrated into CI/CD (we use Flyway; Liquibase or similar experience transfers).

• Strong HA/DR, backup/recovery, and replication experience.

• Scripting for automation (PowerShell, Python, or similar).

• Practical experience using AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) to produce real work: scripts, queries, automation, documentation.

Nice to Have:

• Experience migrating from MSSQL to PostgreSQL: schema and stored procedure conversion, data migration, application cutover.

• Cloud database experience on AWS (RDS)

• Multi-tenant SaaS environments

• MongoDB or other non-relational engines

• ETL/ELT tooling and modern data stack exposure

• Database security and compliance (SOC 2, GDPR)
