Backend Developer – AI-Powered Features

Datarails is growing, and we're looking for a brilliant, independent AI Software Developer to join our CTO office!

Datarails is a SaaS B2B solution that tackles one of the biggest challenges in financial departments: the overflowing amount of data that, up until now, was managed by tons of Excel sheets. All those financial reports, forecasts, expenses, analytics? Datarails takes all this data and integrates it into a one, simple, smart report. It consolidates the information, enables the finance professionals to follow it, manage it, and create the ever-needed order within the realm of finances. If this isn't enough, it enables thorough analysis of consolidated data for the creation of business and financial insights. It’s cloud-based, so nothing gets lost, it’s brilliant, so almost every feature can be added.

Requirements:

4+ years of backend development experience, with strong skills in Node.js and TypeScript – must.
2+ years of hands-on experience building AI/LLM-powered product features, since the ChatGPT/LLM era.
Practical experience with OpenAI API, or similar vendors (Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, Groq, etc.).
Proven ability to build and maintain LLM-driven workflows such as chat agents, automations, retrieval flows, or generative features.
Strong understanding of API design, microservices, and backend architecture.
Ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver high-quality features end-to-end.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Note: Experience in a SaaS company and a passion for building smart, scalable, and high-impact features are highly valued.

What You'll Do:

Own end-to-end development of backend features, from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
Work closely with Product and cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered features using LLMs, vector search, prompt orchestration, and external AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.).
Design, implement, and maintain APIs and microservices that integrate with external AI vendors in a scalable, reliable way.
Translate product requirements into practical AI-driven flows, including prompt design, context building, routing, evaluation, and fallback strategies.
Implement observability and monitoring around AI usage (usage tracking, cost monitoring, latency, error handling, safety checks).
Take initiative and ownership, proactively identify blockers, and drive features to completion.
Write clean, maintainable, and testable code in Node.js/TypeScript, and participate in code reviews and design discussions.
Contribute to improving development processes and engineering best practices
