We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to our Cloud's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. You will anticipate our customer needs and be empowered to act like an owner, take action and innovate. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
Cloud Filestore is a managed file storage service for applications that require a shared filesystem through a network interface (e.g., NFS) and Enterprise-grade feature set (e.g., backups, snapshots).
Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of experienced engineers and Tech Leads.
Drive the technical direction, roadmap and detailed planning along with the engineering manager.
Design and architect scalable, resilient, and performant distributed filesystem backend for Filestore.
Make key decisions regarding technology choices, system design, and trade-offs.
Collaborate and work closely with product managers, SREs, and other Engineering teams within File-solutions, Storage and Google Cloud to align technical strategy with product goals.

8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures and algorithms.
5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
Experience with cross-functional collaboration and decision-making with multiple stakeholder groups.
Preferred qualifications:
Masters degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
Experience in storage systems, distributed systems architecture, data replication, and disaster recovery technologies.
Experience programming in C/C++.
