CHILD DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT WORKER DESCRIPTION

The Jordan’s Principle Initiative is a program designed to assist children in the community with healthy physical, educational and social development. The child development support worker is responsible for working directly with children, youth and caregivers as well as healthcare staff in the community. The program will incorporate knowledge of educational and medical best practices and individualized child engagement approaches.

DUTIES:
Create and implement age-appropriate activities and lesson plans that promote child development and learning.
Observe and track children's progress and behavior to identify areas for improvement and provide feedback to parents and supervisors.
Identify specific educational, social, and emotional goals for each child based on the strengths, interests and capacities, as well as the barriers and challenges for each child.
Collaborate with other child development professionals, including teachers, therapists and social workers to ensure the best possible outcome for children.
Establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships with children and caregivers to ensure the students fully participate in the program
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to children's development, behavior and progress.
Provide a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Attend training and professional development sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices in child development and early childhood education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Grade 12
A certification as a Health Care Aide, Early Child Educator, or hold post-secondary training in Disability and Community Support. An acceptable combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Ability and willingness to work with children with disabilities
Effective communication skills with both verbal and non-verbal populations
A class 4 driving license required, (class 5 will be considered, with the willingness to obtain a class 4 driving license)
Access to a personal vehicle
Must be comfortable using computers, particularly Microsoft Office
