MSc/PhD, Doctoral Student Optical Communications Researcher

Ribbon is looking for a MSc/PhD, Doctoral Student Optical Communications Researcher to lead and contribute to advanced research in coherent optical communication systems.
Responsibilities
Analysis of non‑measurable or partially observable optical phenomena, demanding strong analytical reasoning beyond direct experimental data
Model accuracy and fidelity, requiring the ability to synthesize complex optical physical phenomena into reliable theoretical and simulation models
Evaluation of emerging or non‑standard optical network architectures, where limited prior art or validation data may exist
Digital twin research:
Participating in development and integration efforts, while providing answers to complex optical system issues, arising from the digital twin activity
Research of optical layer Network Digital Twin, combining optical hardware, software and AI/ML algorithms
Performing simulation of optical phenomena, modeling of optical behavior, using ML algorithms

Position is for hybrid work (with mandatory 3 days per week in office)
Requirements
MSc/PhD student/researcher in optical networks and optical phenomena research
Proven background and academia experience in optical communication field research.
Proven programming experience in MATLAB/Python
Strong analytical skills, ability to see the whole picture and integrate different disciplines into a single, coherent picture
Strong conceptual and synthesis skills required to build accurate and expressive theoretical and simulation models.
Ability to simplify complicated problems while complying with the system requirements
High level of autonomy and ownership, requiring self‑driven problem definition, prioritization, and decision‑making.
