Full Time -Street Department Laborer

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Repairs, replaces, and maintains street signs and markers.
• Performs manual labor in the repair and construction of streets; performs concrete work, chip seal, asphalt work, and patching on streets, sidewalks, curbs, trails, and parking lots.
• Operates painting equipment to paint crosswalks, parking spaces, curbs, and other street and sidewalk markings.
• Performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
• Mows weeds, cuts brush, trims trees, and cleans site by raking and/or hauling materials; clears storm drains of debris.
• Clears snow from City properties and sidewalks, snowplows streets, and hauls snow off site.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, posthole diggers, and other motorized equipment customarily used in the operation and maintenance of streets and facilities, and both motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Assists in general building and grounds cleaning and equipment maintenance work, maintains street shop.
  
  

Additional Tasks And Responsibilities

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

• Helps install and remove snow fence and holiday decorations.
• Attends safety meetings and seminars as required.
• Assists other departments parks, cemetery, and wastewater as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
  
  

Qualifications

Minimum Education or Experience Required: High school education or G.E.D., and six to twelve months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education or Experience Required: High school diploma or G.E.D., or twelve months to two years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Other Requirements – Certificates/Licensures:

• Valid Iowa Driver’s License and Commercial Driver’s license (CDL), with air brake endorsement issued by the State of Iowa (within allotted time after hire).
• Meets City residency requirements.
