The Navigation Engineer will join SKAPION’s GNC group, developing and validating advanced navigation and state‑estimation algorithms within SKAPION’s defense‑technology product line. This is a hands‑on technical role focused on sensor fusion, inertial navigation, and robust navigation performance in demanding real-world conditions.
The ideal candidate brings strong domain knowledge in navigation, state estimation, or aerospace systems, along with the drive to take algorithms from simulation through the lab to the field in a fast‑paced startup environment.
The Mission:
Responsible for developing and validating robust navigation and state‑estimation algorithms within SKAPION’s defense‑technology product line
Why Join Skapion?:
Some problems are too urgent to wait. Skapion is a defense-tech company building a Native Counter-Swarm Platform, designed from the ground up to intercept and defeat the threat. We are backed by top-tier investors and recruiting at full steam.
- Build it from day one. Shape the architecture instead of inheriting someone else’s. Your decisions will define the system.
- See your work in the field. Take your system from the whiteboard through the lab to live trials and real operational use.
- Real, visible impact. In a focused team, your work matters directly to the mission and to the people who depend on it.
- Growing fast. The people who join now will help set the standard for everything that comes next.
Responsibilities:
- Designing, implementing, and tuning navigation and state‑estimation algorithms, including Kalman filter variants (EKF, UKF, error‑state) and multi‑sensor fusion.
- Integrating data from IMUs, GNSS, magnetometers, barometers, and other onboard sensors into a robust, real‑time navigation solution.
- Developing navigation solutions that remain reliable under GNSS degradation, interference, or denial.
- Building and maintaining sensor models and navigation simulation environments that support algorithm development and Monte Carlo analysis.
- Collaborating with guidance, control, software, and hardware teams to integrate navigation algorithms into the embedded system.
- Supporting field tests, analysing flight logs and sensor data, and iterating on algorithms based on real‑world results.
- Documenting algorithms, sensor calibration and alignment procedures, and performance analyses.
- Strong hands‑on experience in navigation, state estimation, or sensor fusion for UAVs, robotics, aerospace, or guided platforms.
- Deep understanding of Kalman filtering and estimation theory (EKF, UKF, error‑state formulations).
- Experience with inertial navigation and INS/GNSS integration, including IMU error modelling and calibration.
- Solid background in simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or Python-based modelling frameworks.
- Familiarity with embedded implementation of navigation algorithms (C/C++, real‑time constraints).
- Solid grasp of rigid‑body kinematics, attitude representations (quaternions, rotation matrices), and coordinate frames.
- Experience with GNSS‑denied navigation.
- Experience with CI/CD workflows for simulation and algorithm testing.
- Experience integrating algorithms into real-world systems and working in fast-paced development environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
