Human Mission is a highly promising medical technology startup at the forefront of next-generation medical device development.
Founded by an experienced team with a proven track record of technological innovation, the company combines advanced engineering, sophisticated software, and cutting-edge technologies to address important challenges in modern medicine.
We offer an exciting startup environment, ambitious technological goals, and the opportunity to contribute to innovations with significant real-world impact.
The Position
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Real-Time Embedded Systems & FPGA Engineer with deep technical expertise and proven hands-on experience in microcontroller-based systems, real-time programming, FPGA development, and digital and analog signal processing.
The ideal candidate combines a strong understanding of hardware and software with the ability to independently design, implement, debug, and optimize complex embedded systems.
This is primarily a hands-on individual contributor position, with the potential to evolve into broader system architecture, technical leadership, or other responsibilities as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities
Real-Time Embedded Systems Development
- Design, develop, and implement high-performance, real-time embedded systems based on microcontrollers, particularly the STM32 family.
- Develop low-level firmware and embedded applications using C and C++.
- Implement and optimize interrupt-driven architectures, timers, DMA, ADC/DAC, PWM, and communication peripherals.
- Develop efficient, deterministic, low-latency software for time-critical applications.
- Design and debug hardware/software interfaces, including SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, and other communication protocols.
- Perform system-level integration, performance optimization, debugging, and validation.
FPGA Development
- Design, implement, and debug FPGA-based systems using AMD/Xilinx and Intel (Altera) FPGA platforms.
- Develop FPGA logic using VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog.
- Implement high-speed digital interfaces, timing-critical logic, data acquisition, and real-time processing architectures.
- Perform simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, hardware debugging, and design verification.
- Integrate FPGA logic with microcontrollers, processors, and peripheral hardware.
- Optimize FPGA implementations for performance, resource utilization, and timing requirements.
Signal Processing and Hardware Integration
- Design and implement digital signal processing algorithms, including FIR and IIR filters, frequency-domain processing, and real-time signal analysis.
- Understand and contribute to analog signal-conditioning circuits, including active and passive filters, amplifiers, ADC/DAC interfaces, and noise reduction.
- Apply sampling theory, filtering, numerical methods, and signal integrity principles.
- Implement efficient signal processing algorithms on microcontrollers and FPGAs.
- Work across hardware, firmware, and FPGA boundaries to optimize overall system performance.
Required Qualifications
- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong proficiency in C and C++, with substantial experience in embedded software development.
- Deep knowledge of microcontroller architectures, particularly STM32, including registers, peripherals, interrupts, timers, DMA, and real-time execution.
- Proven experience developing and delivering complete microcontroller-based systems.
- Proven hands-on experience in FPGA design, coding, implementation, and debugging.
- Practical development experience with Intel (Altera) and/or AMD/Xilinx FPGA platforms, including their development tools.
- Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
- Strong understanding of digital electronics, hardware interfaces, and system-level debugging.
- Knowledge of analog and digital signal processing, including filter design and implementation.
- Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and signal generators.
- Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex hardware and software problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience with STM32G4, STM32H7, or other advanced STM32 microcontroller families.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal embedded development.
- Advanced DMA architectures, high-speed SPI, ADC/DAC data acquisition, and synchronized timing systems.
- Experience with Intel Quartus and AMD/Xilinx Vivado development environments.
- FPGA-based DSP implementations, fixed-point arithmetic, and high-throughput data processing.
- Experience with high-speed digital design, clock-domain crossing, and timing closure.
- Experience designing analog signal-conditioning circuits and active filters.
- Knowledge of FFT, digital filtering, control algorithms, and numerical signal processing.
- Experience with embedded system architecture, hardware bring-up, and PCB-level debugging.
- Familiarity with Python or MATLAB for algorithm development, simulation, and testing.
Personal Attributes
- Strong analytical thinking and deep understanding of both hardware and software.
- Passion for hands-on engineering and solving difficult technical challenges.
- Ability to work independently, taking ownership from initial concept through working implementation.
- Strong debugging skills and a systematic approach to problem-solving.
- Creative, curious, and motivated to explore new technologies.
- Comfortable working in a small, highly experienced multidisciplinary engineering team.
- High technical standards and attention to detail.
