Core Network Engineer

Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Core Network Engineer. The Core Network Engineer will design, implement, and maintain mobile core network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Day-to-day responsibilities include configuring and optimizing network elements, monitoring network health, troubleshooting incidents, and resolving issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams. The engineer will contribute to network architecture decisions, participate in capacity planning, support new product launches, and create technical documentation and runbooks. The role also involves continuous improvement of network design, adherence to best practices, and participation in on-call rotations as needed.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in Mobile Core Network engineering, operations or L2/L3 technical support 
• Good understanding of mobile Core Network architecture 
• Practical knowledge of HSS/HLR and subscriber provisioning 
• Understanding of LTE/EPC registration, authentication and mobility procedures 
• Working knowledge of Diameter, particularly S6a 
• Working knowledge of SS7, MAP and SIGTRAN 
• Ability to understand signalling call flows and identify abnormal network behaviour 
• Experience analysing signalling traces 
• Good Linux command-line skills and ability to investigate application/system logs 
• Understanding of IMSI, MSISDN, ICCID, APN and subscriber profile concepts 
• Ability to perform controlled network configuration changes following operational procedures 
• Clear technical communication and structured troubleshooting skills 

Job Description

• Learn the OwnCore architecture, subscriber model and network integrations 
• Understand subscriber provisioning across GSM, EPS/LTE and IMS domains 
• Take ownership of HSS/HLR L2 incidents and technical troubleshooting 
• Monitor HSS/HLR nodes, alarms, signalling interfaces and system health 
• Analyse Diameter, MAP, SS7/SIGTRAN and IMS-related signalling issues 
• Troubleshoot subscriber authentication, attach, roaming and IMS registration failures 
• Implement approved subscriber, service-profile and HSS/HLR configuration changes 
• Support new IMSI ranges, roaming policies, integrations and service profiles 
• Support ATP, UAT and production readiness testing 
• Build and maintain operational runbooks and troubleshooting procedures
• Operate and maintain the HSS/HLR platform as part of the Core Network Operations team 
• Own L2 troubleshooting for subscriber, authentication, roaming and provisioning issues 
• Perform approved HSS/HLR configuration, provisioning and profile changes 
• Analyse Diameter, SS7/MAP and IMS signalling traces using Wireshark and platform logs 
• Support new IMSI ranges, roaming partners, subscriber profiles and Core Network integrations 
• Troubleshoot issues across HSS/HLR, DRA, STP, MME, IMS and connected systems 
• Implement known fixes, validate changes and support root-cause analysis 
• Escalate complex L3/vendor issues with complete traces, logs and technical findings 
• Maintain operational documentation, configuration records and runbooks
