GenAI Hands-On Architect

About the role

We are looking for a senior architect who still builds. With AI coding agents, one experienced person can now design, build and ship what used to take an architect plus a small dev team. You will lead client engagements end to end, from discovery and estimates to production, across cloud, AI agents and platform modernization. This is a freelance position.

• Lead or participate in discovery sessions and workshops with business and technical stakeholders, up to CTO and CISO
• Turn business problems into an architecture, a scoped plan and effort, timeline and cost estimates you stand behind
• Build hands-on with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor or similar), from a proof of concept in days to production
• Work across the stack: services and APIs, data pipelines, infrastructure as code and CI/CD
• Design and build GenAI systems: RAG, agents, tool integrations, evaluation and guardrails
• Integrate GenAI into the customer's existing systems, data and security model, including identity, permissions and audit
• Own production readiness and hand over with runbooks and documentation

• 15+ years in software engineering, including past roles as a software architect or development manager, while staying hands-on in code
• Freelancer or independent consultant, available for project-based engagements
• Customer-facing delivery in consulting, a systems integrator or an enterprise-focused product company
• 1–2+ years delivering AI solutions: RAG, vector databases and agentic workflows (LangGraph, LangChain or similar), including evaluation, guardrails and cost control
• Experience with several LLM providers, including open-source or self-hosted models for on-prem and air-gapped environments
• Systems you took to production and then supported through incidents, scaling and upgrades; comfortable troubleshooting across application, network and cloud layers
• Strong architecture skills across distributed systems, APIs, integration, security and identity
• Deep hands-on experience in at least one cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure), plus Kubernetes, infrastructure as code and CI/CD
• Strong Python plus at least one more language, such as TypeScript, Java, C# or Go
• Daily use of AI coding agents, and the ability to show your setup, your specs and how you review and test what they produce
• Leads customers rather than only working with them: owns scoping and estimates, explains trade-offs in cost, time and risk, and pushes back when needed
• A track record of estimates that held up: projects you scoped, priced and then delivered on time and on budget
• Professional Hebrew and English

• Availability for substantial project-based engagements, with the ability to commit to agreed project timelines and client schedules.
• Must be based in Israel.
• Hybrid work model, with on-site presence at client offices in central Israel for at least 60% of working time.
• Flexibility to work on-site more frequently when required by project needs or client security policies.
• Willingness to undergo background screening, integrity assessments and security clearance processes, as required by clients in regulated or sensitive sectors, including financial services, insurance, government and defense.
• Ability to travel independently to client locations across central Israel.
