System Engineer - UAS Development

At BlueBird Aero Systems, we develop, manufacture, and operate advanced tactical unmanned aerial systems (UAS). We’re looking for a System Engineer to lead the development of sophisticated, multidisciplinary airborne systems — from requirements definition and system architecture to design, implementation, integration, and flight testing.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who combines strong system-level thinking with technical leadership, independent problem-solving, and a passion for turning complex engineering challenges into real-world capabilities.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead system engineering and technical development from initial concept through operational delivery.
• Define system architecture, requirements, and interfaces between subsystems.
• Drive design and implementation with multidisciplinary teams across hardware, software, mechanical, aeronautical, integration, and flight testing.
• Make engineering decisions, manage design trade-offs, and resolve complex system-level challenges.
• Lead design reviews and verification & validation (V&V) throughout the development lifecycle.
• Plan, lead, and analyze system, ground, and flight tests.
• Investigate failures, analyze system performance, and drive engineering improvements and solutions.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Software / Aerospace / Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience developing multidisciplinary systems across design, implementation, and integration.
• Experience in system engineering, including requirements definition, system architecture, and interface definition.
• Proven ability to lead development activities and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• A hands-on engineering mindset, with practical experience in testing, data analysis, simulations, test-tool development, or automation.
• Strong system-level thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, independence, and initiative.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
• Strong written English.

Bonus Points If You Have

• Experience developing airborne platforms, UAS, or autonomous systems.
• Experience with flight control, navigation, flight logic, or autonomous capabilities.
• Experience with electrical and power systems, energy management, power distribution, or electric propulsion systems.
• Experience leading system integration and flight testing.
• Familiarity with civil or military aerospace development standards and processes.
