Note: Although we are a PM-first organization, this position is not a stepping stone to becoming a Product Manager. This is a Community Management position for someone who already has experience in the field and wants to grow within it in a meaningful way.
We are Product League, the most trusted mentorship program for Product Managers across more than 30 countries around the globe. We are looking for an experienced Community management professional to join our League and move the needle. As a global program, 99.9% of our community engagement is happening online, through our eLearning platform, webinars, our soon to be launched forum and our social media channels.
How do we see Community Management?
We believe Community Management is all about making humans feel energized and understood. Not necessarily in this order. Now, we are not talking about the artificial sense of energy you get when you inject yourself with some sugar but the one you feel when the radio plays your favourite teenage-days song. Energy that spreads in your body and motivates you because you feel seen, heard and part of something bigger and better. Because that song will make you engage with it.
In this role, you’ll help us shape the Community Management experience of both the mentors and mentees at our program.
As you can probably tell, this is a very human-centered position, and we are looking for someone who is very human-focused. We need you to do what AI cannot do.
You are not going to spend your time writing the next “oh my... so viral” social post. Your work will be tied to the most crucial KPI of our program: Engagement: getting people to show up, participate, interact, respond, connect and remain active.
You will be asked to use evaluation, analysis, design, and delivery to create a measurable impact on both our participants and the company’s bottom line.
That includes, but is absolutely not limited to:
- Evaluation: Talks with members continuously to build relationships, identify needs, encourage participation, and support them. Likely to handle ongoing individual member needs and interactions.
- Analysis: Analyze engagement data, investigate drop-off, and design surveys that help us understand why people behave the way they do.
- Design: Run polls, feedback requests and community pulse checks. Create a blended and facilitated experience, incorporating offline touchpoints and synchronous learning and participation.
- Delivery: Run experiments, improve our community experience, and turn what you learn into changes that can be measured. You will actively create and maintain engagement through community interactions and initiatives.
Note: You won't be doing all of these things every week. We'll identify the highest-impact problem, and you'll be expected to take it from understanding the problem through designing, implementing, and evaluating the solution.
What value will you create for Product League?
You will help mentors and mentees maximize their engagement with the program, make the most of their relationships with fellow members, and increase their chances of making meaningful progress at work as a result of it. We talk about something that is much bigger than networking opportunities. We talk about one’s chance to feel understood and appreciated.
Your work will also include an operational aspect: coordination, follow-ups, communication, activation, and you should be comfortable with tools that will allow you to share these with the rest of the team and with the community.
Requirements
A minimum of three years of experience as a Community Manager.
High proficiency in English. You are not required to never make a spelling mistake, but you are going to spend your entire time working in English. We repeat: English only.
What does success look like?
A direct, measurable influence on user engagement KPIs, such as participation, responsiveness, community activity, member relationships, retention/returning members
Why do we need you?
We are launching a new mentorship and Leadership development solution for women in Product leadership . There is a lot we don’t know yet, and we want you to help us figure out what these leaders actually need, what will make a difference, and how to turn that into a community experience that feels meaningful.
You will work directly with our GM.
What does the work look like?
This is a 50% (part time) position with considerable flexibility in how you manage your time. Because community happens throughout the week, however, the role requires consistent presence and responsiveness rather than concentrating all working hours into two or three days.
This job is for you if...
You know how to make things work, but you also understand what it means to be part of something bigger, something that requires a macro-level point of view and the ability to balance short-term needs with long-term thinking.
You get curious when something isn't working. You want to understand why before jumping to a solution. You're comfortable using both conversations and data to figure it out, and you don't stop at recommending what someone else should do. You want to see whether your solution actually worked.
Your super powers span relationship-building, communication, initiative, and execution.
You are someone who can read a community: notice who's disengaging, who's being left out, when something isn't landing, when to intervene, when to connect two people, and when to get out of the way.
Oh, and you should feel comfortable personally running sessions/events, if needed.
This job is NOT for you if…
You need a lot of hand-holding on the one hand (pun intended), or act more like a know-it-all AI than a humble human on the other.
It’s also not for you if you are comfortable with having a customer-support/admin role instead of building an actual community.
What will your first month on the job look like?
You will spend your first month learning the fundamentals of our business and understanding the KPIs your work will be tied to and measured by.
Before the end of your first month, we’ll want to see one moment where you made us better: an insight we missed, a problem you uncovered, an idea worth testing, or a solution you made happen.
