  • Backend / Systems Software Team Lead

  • About the Company
  • We are partnering with an innovative, high-growth startup at the intersection of cellular core software and satellite communications.
  • Role Overview
  • As a Backend / Systems Software Team Lead, you will serve as a senior technical authority driving the development of high-performance, distributed networking and backend systems.
  • Reporting directly to the VP of R&D, you will combine hands-on software development, system architecture, and technical leadership, while guiding a highly skilled engineering team.
  • The role is approximately 50% hands-on, with a strong focus on designing and developing complex, real-time, high-availability systems.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • • Technical Leadership & Hands-On Development: Lead by example through designing, coding, debugging, and architecting distributed backend and networking components while mentoring team members and establishing engineering best practices.
  • • Architecture & System Design: Own and evolve system architecture, evaluate technologies, and design solutions for scalability, ultra-low latency, reliability, and high availability.
  • • End-to-End Engineering: Drive the full engineering lifecycle from system design and prototyping through development, automated testing, deployment, and production.
  • • Agile Execution: Lead day-to-day technical execution, define priorities, conduct code reviews, and maintain high engineering standards.
  • • Technical Mentoring: Provide hands-on technical guidance and support the professional growth of engineers.
  • • AI-Assisted Engineering: Establish best practices for AI-assisted software development, design-first workflows, and test automation to improve engineering efficiency and delivery.
  • Key Requirements
  • • 5+ years of experience in backend software development, distributed systems, networking software, or other complex real-time software environments.
  • • Strong experience with Java or C/C++.
  • • Proven experience designing and building complex, distributed, high-performance software systems.
  • • Experience with system architecture, software design, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • • Ability to work hands-on while providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.
  • • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently research, prototype, and implement complex technical solutions.
  • • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Advantage – Telecom / Networking Background
  • • Experience with cellular core, telecom, networking protocols, or network infrastructure.
  • • Knowledge of 3G/4G/5G architecture and 3GPP standards.
  • • Experience with protocols such as GTP, Diameter, PFCP, S1AP, NGAP, or NAS.
  • • Experience with specialized telecom services such as VoLTE, VoNR, Lawful Interception, Cell Broadcast, or Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN).
  • Nice to Have
  • • Experience with Kafka, MongoDB, Couchbase, ELK, or similar technologies.
  • • Familiarity with AWS or GCP.
  • • Experience with high-availability and low-latency systems.
  • • Experience working in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment.
  • • Experience as a Tech Lead, Team Lead, Senior/Staff Engineer, or technical authority is an advantage.
