Role Description

The Electro-Optics System Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Israel, leading the design and integration of BIRD's advanced electro-optical products. The engineer owns the system from concept through mass production: defining system requirements, designing System-of-Systems architecture, and integrating electro-optical sensors and subsystems into airborne platforms. Daily activities include system-level analysis, supporting laboratory and field tests, and diagnosing complex technical issues across hardware, firmware, software, and interfaces. The role requires close work with multidisciplinary teams — software, firmware, hardware, mechanics, integration, and operations — to ensure system performance and reliability. Additional responsibilities include documenting system designs, preparing technical reports, supporting customer demonstrations, and providing technical support during deployment and maintenance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of system engineering experience, specifically with electro-optical products.
• Deep understanding of System-of-Systems architecture, including requirements definition and system-level integration.
• Proven experience taking complex, multi-disciplinary products from development into mass production.
• Hands-on expertise with imaging sensors (EO/IR, gimbals, imaging systems) and system integration.
• Experience with integration and verification activities: lab testing, field trials, and validation of system performance.
• Ability to thrive in cross-functional teams — software, firmware, hardware, and mechanics.
• Sharp analytical and troubleshooting skills, including root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Ability to work on-site in Israel, with clear technical communication in written and spoken English.
• Advantage: familiarity with signal processing algorithms, and a background in IDF technological units.
