Role Summary

We are looking for an ambitious Software Engineer to become a core contributor to Dondy’s product and engineering team.

You will report directly to our Technical Co-Founder, working closely with them through hands-on mentorship, architectural guidance, and structured onboarding as you build a deep understanding of the platform.

This is a hands-on, full-stack role with exposure across backend systems, frontend product experiences, Shopify and WhatsApp integrations, automation workflows, AI capabilities, and merchant-facing tools.

You will own work end-to-end, from understanding the problem and shaping the implementation through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and post-release support.

As Dondy scales, you will progressively take ownership of larger parts of the platform and contribute to stronger engineering practices, system reliability, documentation, and technical consistency.

For the right engineer, this role offers a clear path toward Senior Software Engineer, based on demonstrated autonomy, technical judgment, system ownership, and impact.

Core Contributions & Responsibilities

Your focus will be on shipping high-quality product improvements, maintaining reliable systems, and steadily expanding your technical ownership:

• Feature Delivery: Own the end-to-end implementation, testing, deployment, and validation of product features, bug fixes, technical improvements, database migrations, and AI capabilities.
• Backend & Integrations: Build and maintain backend services and integrations with Shopify, WhatsApp Business API, and third-party platforms. Work with event-driven components including queues, webhooks, background jobs, asynchronous workflows, and external APIs.
• Code Quality & Reliability: Write clean, secure, maintainable, and production-ready code. Contribute to code reviews and automated testing, troubleshoot production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
• Collaboration & Ownership: Work closely with the Technical Co-Founder and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements, technical approaches, and delivery expectations. Communicate progress, blockers, risks, and trade-offs proactively.
• Engineering Practices & AI: Contribute to stronger documentation, CI/CD, observability, testing, and knowledge sharing. Use generative AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT thoughtfully to accelerate development, debugging, testing, and documentation.

Requirements & Candidate Profile

Must Have

• 2–4 years of professional software development experience, ideally in backend or full-stack roles.
• Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including writing clean, maintainable, secure, and testable code.
• Hands-on experience with APIs, webhooks, databases, and third-party integrations.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues using logs and observability tools.
• Strong ownership mindset and clear, proactive communication in English.

Nice to Have / Strongly Preferred

• Exposure to Shopify, e-commerce platforms, or messaging APIs.
• Working knowledge of AWS, MongoDB, and event-driven architectures.
• Background in WebSockets, real-time applications, Python/FastAPI, or AI-powered products.
• Startup or small-team experience with broad product and technical ownership.

What Success Looks Like

• First 30 Days: Complete onboarding, build a strong working rhythm with the Technical Co-Founder, ship your first fixes or features, and develop a solid understanding of Dondy’s core Shopify and WhatsApp systems.
• First 90 Days: Independently deliver scoped features, contribute to code reviews, resolve production issues, and take ownership of defined product flows.
• First 180 Days: Operate as a trusted core contributor, own features end to end, improve system reliability, and begin contributing to technical design decisions.
• Year 1 & Beyond: Take ownership of key modules, propose meaningful technical improvements, support future team members, and demonstrate the scope, judgment, and impact expected for progression toward a Senior Software Engineer role.
