Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is seeking a Research & Laboratory Engineer to join the Swiss Institute for Dryland Environmental & Energy Research at the Sde Boker Campus.

This is a hands-on engineering role at the intersection of research, technology, and fieldwork, combining the design and development of experimental systems with laboratory and field equipment operation, data management, and technical support for researchers and students.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and build research facilities, experimental setups, testing methods, and dedicated research equipment in collaboration with researchers.
• Coordinate the setup of new scientific facilities, including personnel, tools, materials, and internal and external service providers.
• Operate and maintain laboratory and field equipment, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repairs.
• Collect, process, and manage data from the Institute’s meteorological station and maintain historical research databases.
• Provide technical support and guidance to students and research teams in both laboratory and field environments.
• Operate, monitor, and maintain research sites and experimental facilities.
• Procure equipment and materials and work with external suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering. A Master’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering is an advantage.
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Hands-on experience operating laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
• Experience working on laboratory and field-based research projects.
• Experience with relevant software and programming tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Multisim, LabVIEW, C++, Python, and vibe coding.
• Valid driver’s license, including manual transmission. Experience driving 4x4 vehicles is an advantage.
• Good command of English.
• Experience in research system design, programming, and electronic circuits is an advantage.
