Senior Backend Developer

PayPlus is looking for a self-motivated Senior Backend Developer to help build and scale our payments and commerce platform using Node.js and Go (Golang). Strong Node.js expertise is required; hands-on Go experience is a significant advantage.

You will take a leading technical role in developing new products and enhancing existing systems, combining hands-on development with architectural ownership. The ideal candidate has experience with large-scale applications, takes responsibility for production outcomes, and brings strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and Go.
• Write clean, efficient, well-tested, and maintainable code.
• Own features from technical design through implementation, deployment, and production support.
• Develop APIs, database integrations, third-party interfaces, and event-driven workflows.
• Improve application performance, database efficiency, and system resilience.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, QA, and infrastructure teams to meet business, security, and compliance requirements.
• Troubleshoot production issues, investigate root causes, and implement lasting solutions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, lead code reviews, and mentor other developers.
• Improve automated testing, deployment processes, and engineering standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of relevant backend development experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex production services.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Deep understanding of asynchronous programming, the Node.js event loop, error handling, and performance optimization.
• Strong knowledge of software design principles, object-oriented design, and database design.
• Experience designing REST APIs and integrating with external services.
• Understanding of data consistency and reliable service communication, including timeouts, retries, and idempotency.
• Experience with automated testing, Git, and collaborative development practices.
• Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and secure data handling.
• Experience working with Agile or Scrum methodologies.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and communicate technical decisions clearly.
• Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and mentoring skills.
• Good written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Production experience with Go (Golang), including goroutines, channels, context cancellation, and building concurrent services a significant advantage.
• Experience designing and operating microservices-based architectures.
• Experience with relational, NoSQL, or graph databases, including PostgreSQL
• Experience with message brokers and event-streaming platforms, such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with GraphQL or gRPC.
• Working knowledge of Vue.js or React.
• Experience with Redis, caching strategies, or workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal.
• Experience in payments, fintech, billing, subscriptions, or high-volume transaction processing.
