Senior Software Engineer – Quantum Systems

Q-Factor is an early-stage startup building a new generation of scalable quantum computers based on neutral atoms.

We are a highly technical team working at the intersection of physics, optics, hardware, control, and software. We use state-of-the-art technology and a novel approach to realize a fully functional quantum processing unit with unmatched performance. 

We are looking for an experienced, broad-minded software engineer who enjoys working across disciplines to help us build the software backbone of this system. 

Software plays a central role in the development of our quantum computer. It spans low-level hardware and signal control, experiment orchestration, simulation and validation, data and cloud infrastructure, and internal tools and interfaces.  

As a Senior Software Engineer – Quantum Systems, you will work closely with our Head of Software and multi disciplinarity R&D team to design, develop, and integrate the software stack that operates and supports our quantum processing system. 

We value strong software engineering skills, curiosity, good judgment, and the ability to learn and work across technical boundaries. We are not looking for someone who has mastered every technology below, but for someone with depth in several areas and the breadth to navigate the rest. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Design and develop the company’s software stack across multiple layers of the system. 
• Develop software that interfaces with laboratory equipment and physical hardware, including drivers, control, and real-time components. 
• Develop simulation, testing, monitoring, and data infrastructure, including cloud-based systems for storage and remote access. 
• Develop internal tools, APIs, and web interfaces that enable physicists and engineers to interact with, control, characterize, and operate the system efficiently. 

Qualifications 

• A degree in computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, or equivalent experience. 
• At least 7 years of software development experience across multiple layers of the stack. 
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building complex systems. 
• Experience integrating software with hardware systems, laboratory equipment, or other physical systems. 
• Strong experience in some of the following areas: system architecture, device drivers, real-time systems, scientific computing, digital signal processing, CUDA/GPU programming, C/C++/Rust, embedded programming, cloud infrastructure, control – an advantage. 
• Ability to collaborate effectively across technical domains and multidisciplinary teams. 
• Systems-oriented, curious, and comfortable learning new technical areas.
