We are looking for an Assistant Controller to join our Finance team and support the monthly close, general accounting, cost and spend review, revenue accounting, and audit processes. You will own reconciliations, cost and expense analysis, revenue and reporting workstreams.
This is designed as a first in-house move for a newly qualified CPA coming out of a Big 4 firm. We are looking for someone highly motivated, hard-working, and clever, who wants to invest seriously in their finance career and grow into broader ownership of the Company's financial reporting, working closely with and reporting to the Director of Finance.
Responsibilities:
- Support the month-end close cycle, including preparation and review of balance sheet and P&L accounts and reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing consolidated financial statements.
- Support bank account and credit card reconciliations, and review of employee expense reports.
- Review costs and spending by category, flagging unusual items, misclassifications, and budget variances to the Director of Finance.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure transactions are coded to the correct cost centers, projects, and expense categories.
- Support general accounting activities, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, payroll entries, and intercompany transactions.
- Assist in preparing VAT reports and supporting payments to authorities.
- Support the annual audit, including preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Provide guidance and oversight to bookkeeping staff on day-to-day transactions.
- Support ad-hoc analysis and reporting as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting from a leading, reputable academic institution, and completed CPA training at one of the Big 4 accounting firms (audit or advisory) – A must.
- Exposure to defense, inventory-heavy, or hardware companies as part of your audit/internship client portfolio – A plus.
- Proficient in English (writing, reading, and speaking) and Microsoft Excel.
- Highly motivated and hard-working, with the drive to take on work beyond the job description.
- Clever and quick to learn – able to work through problems that are too complex for a bookkeeper without a template to follow.
- Genuinely invested in building a finance career, and looking for a role with real ownership rather than a narrow one.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to grow into broader ownership of financial reporting.
- Able to handle sensitive information with discretion and maturity.
