Research And Development Manager

We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on engineering leader to lead day-to-day development and take substantial technical ownership of a modern, business-critical fintech platform. The role also offers direct exposure to the business side of fintech and the opportunity to build deep knowledge of financial products, workflows and client needs.

·      Strong architecture judgment plus meaningful production cloud/AWS experience.

·      Demonstrated ability to lead engineers, review their work and raise engineering standards.

·      Fintech experience is advantageous but not required; strong curiosity about the business and a desire to learn the financial domain deeply are important.

What you will own

·      Day-to-day technical leadership of the development team, including work breakdown, technical decisions, code/design reviews, mentoring and removal of technical blockers.

·      A deep end-to-end understanding of the platform: backend, frontend interactions, database architecture, integrations, AWS infrastructure and production behavior.

·      Translation of business and product requirements into architecture, implementation plans, dependencies, acceptance criteria and clear engineering tasks.

·      Engineering quality: coding standards, automated tests, review discipline, release readiness, production troubleshooting and technical debt.

·      Systematic knowledge distribution through architecture documentation, runbooks, ownership maps, cross-training and stronger component/domain ownership.

·      Practical execution of the platform evolution program together with the CTO, including continued movement toward greater modularity and a more service-oriented architecture.

·      AI-assisted engineering practices across code analysis, implementation, testing, review, documentation and system understanding - with appropriate access controls, automated validation and human review.

Required experience

·      Extensive professional software-engineering experience, typically 10+ years or equivalent depth.

·      Strong recent hands-on experience with C# and .NET in production systems.

·      Significant experience in a senior technical-leadership role such as Head of Engineering, R&D Manager, Director/Engineering Manager, Technical Director, Principal Engineer with team leadership, Lead Architect or similar.

·      Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring and making technical decisions for software engineers.

·      Experience with large, complex or business-critical software systems and the ability to understand an unfamiliar codebase systematically.

·      Strong relational-database skills, including data modeling, complex SQL, performance and safe schema evolution. MySQL experience is preferred.

·      Strong system architecture and software-design skills, including APIs, integrations, distributed systems and asynchronous processing.

·      Meaningful production cloud experience; strong AWS experience is preferred and the candidate must be capable of understanding and leading within an AWS environment.

·      Understanding of CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, production troubleshooting, security and operational reliability.

·      Strong communication skills, curiosity about the business, and the ability to work directly with business leadership as well as developers.

·      Strong English. Hebrew is advantageous.

AI-assisted engineering

We want AI to become an integral engineering capability rather than an isolated productivity tool. The successful candidate should have practical experience with modern AI coding assistants/agents and, more importantly, the engineering judgment to introduce them safely and effectively.

·      Use AI for codebase analysis, implementation, test generation, refactoring, code review and documentation.

·      Create repository context, standards and workflows that make AI output more reliable.

·      Require automated testing, validation and human review rather than accepting generated code uncritically.

·      Define sensible security/access boundaries for agentic development tools.

·      Measure engineering outcomes - quality, lead time, review effort and maintainability - rather than simply the volume of generated code.

Strong advantages

·      Experience evolving or incrementally decomposing a large monolithic application toward clearer modular or service boundaries.

·      Experience in fintech, financial systems, payments, B2B finance, or other highly transactional and integration-heavy platforms.

·      React and/or Node.js familiarity sufficient to reason across the full application stack.

·      Infrastructure-as-code, DevOps, SRE or platform-engineering experience.

·      Experience with distributed/offshore development teams.

·      Experience creating engineering documentation and reducing key-person knowledge concentration.

·      Russian or Ukrainian language skills.
