Product Configuration Engineer – Manufacturing

We are seeking a Product Configuration Engineer – Manufacturing to own and improve the systems, data, and processes that connect product definition with manufacturing execution. You will ensure that product configurations, Bills of Material, engineering changes, and product specifications are accurate, controlled, and accessible throughout the product lifecycle – from NPI through mass production and end-of-life.

In this role, you will combine product lifecycle and configuration management with manufacturing traceability, data analysis, and automation. You will work across R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, Operations, Information Systems, and global manufacturing partners to enable reliable product releases, faster issue resolution, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Manage product lifecycle and configuration activities from early development through NPI, mass production and end-of-life, ensuring compliance with product release and configuration standards.

• Own and maintain product Bills of Material (BOMs), approved configurations, revisions and related product master data across applicable PDM, PLM, ERP, or engineering systems.

• Manage and support Engineering Change Request and Engineering Change Order (ECR/ECO) processes, ensuring accurate documentation, impact assessment, approval, release and implementation across all relevant sites.

• Define and implement an end-to-end traceability methodology for different production lines and products, covering the full manufacturing flow from raw materials and components through assembly, testing and final product release.

• Establish clear traceability requirements for unit, lot, material, machine, operator, process and test data, enabling reliable product genealogy and rapid retrieval of manufacturing history.

• Characterize, deploy and maintain information systems, traceability platforms and automation tools that improve data integrity, accessibility, monitoring, validation, analysis and reporting.

• Identify gaps or inconsistencies in product configuration and traceability data, lead corrective actions and implement controls that prevent recurrence.

• Collaborate with R&D, Product Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain and Information Systems to ensure product changes and traceability requirements are implemented accurately and on time.

• Work closely with global manufacturing sites, contract manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers to align processes, resolve issues and maintain consistent configuration and traceability practices.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience in product configuration, BOM or change control, manufacturing traceability, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering or NPI within electronics, semiconductor, photonics or hardware manufacturing.

• B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering or a related technical field.

• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex product and manufacturing data into clear actions.

• Hands-on experience managing product BOMs, configuration baselines, revisions, and ECR/ECO processes.

• Demonstrated experience defining or implementing traceability methods across multi-stage production processes.

• Strong understanding of manufacturing flows and data, including lot control, assembly and test processes, machine and operator records, and technologies such as SMT and AOI.

• Experience working with PDM/PLM, ERP, MES, traceability platforms, or shop-floor systems.

• Hands-on experience working with global contract manufacturers, manufacturing sites, or suppliers.

• A proactive, hands-on team player who can independently lead cross-functional tasks from definition through implementation and closure.

• Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, high-volume, and high-mix environment.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.

• Strong written and verbal English skills for work in a global environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience in electronics, semiconductor or silicon-photonics manufacturing.

• Hands-on experience with PLM and production-related information systems.

• Experience with data analysis, creating dashboards, business intelligence tools, scripting or engineering automation.

• Practical experience with AI/LLM tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, or Copilot for process automation, data analysis, or workflow optimization.

• Experience developing prompts, scripts, AI agents, machine-learning applications or predictive-quality solutions for engineering or manufacturing use cases.
