VP R&D - Robotic Medical Device System

A young, innovative medical device company developing a multi-disciplinary robotic system with ablation therapeutic energy, currently in clinical trials with promising early results, is seeking a VP R&D.

This is a rare opportunity to lead R&D at a small, early-stage company - with direct, immediate impact on product direction, technology, and clinical success, and to grow with the company as it scales.

The role includes:

• Strategic and hands-on leadership of the entire R&D function
• Hands-on lab work alongside high-level planning and management
• Designing and running experiments/tests in the lab and in hospitals, including ongoing clinical trial support
• Leading integration across subcontractors, suppliers, and development partners (local and international)
• Managing development of both the robotic system and the therapeutic energy delivery system
• System verification and validation ahead of trials and demos
• Fast, hands-on troubleshooting of engineering and operational issues
• Using AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) for research, problem-solving, analysis, and documentation
• Writing engineering protocols, reports, and documentation in English
• Working closely with quality, regulatory, and company leadership

Requirements:

• BSc in Mechanical / Biomedical / Electrical Engineering (required); MSc - advantage
• Senior R&D management experience at a medical device company - required
• Experience with robotic systems - required
• Experience with therapeutic energy delivery systems (Stimulation, Sensing, or Ablation) - required
• Experience taking a product from development through clinical trials - significant advantage
• Hands-on lab experience running experiments and system tests - significant advantage
• Experience with AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) - significant advantage
• Team leadership and ability to build organizational infrastructure as the company grows
• Strong ability to manage and integrate multiple suppliers and development streams
• Independent, fast learner, big-picture thinker
• Hands-on, real-time problem-solving approach
• Professional written and spoken English - required
• Deep familiarity with quality and regulatory processes in medical devices - required
