Director of Global Shipping

Operating at a significant international scale, our Finance department manages complex cross-border transactions, high-volume reconciliations, and multi-currency reporting. We are looking for a highly operational, execution-driven Director of Global Shipping & Logistics to gain absolute control over our international shipping engine, drive end-to-end visibility, and ensure our products reach their destinations with maximum speed and reliability. In this role, your primary mission is operational excellence: setting up ironclad tracking infrastructures, optimizing daily workflows, and guaranteeing on-time delivery across high-volume global routes. You will immediately manage an existing team member and recruit/scale the team as our volume expands, balancing daily hands-on execution with department building.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End Operational Control & Tracking: Establish complete visibility over all global shipments. Build and enforce tracking infrastructures to monitor transit times, mitigate delays in real time, and consistently achieve the fastest possible delivery turnarounds.
• Daily Execution & Workflow Ownership: Take full ownership of daily multimodal freight operations (air, ocean, express). Ensure frictionless movement of high-volume shipments across all international routes.
• Performance & Speed Metrics: Drive rigorous SLA compliance focused on speed, On-Time Delivery (OTD), damage reduction, and transit time optimization.
• Team Leadership & Scaling: Direct, mentor, and grow the shipping department—starting with immediate management of a direct report and recruiting top operational talent as shipping volume scales.
• Carrier & 3PL Performance Management: Manage daily relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL partners. Conduct relentless performance monitoring and competitive bidding to secure capacity and speed.
• Customs & Regulatory Execution: Oversee customs compliance, trade documentation, HS coding, and broker workflows to guarantee zero-delay clearance at ports and borders.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate daily with Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, and Customer Experience to provide accurate shipment status, align schedules, and resolve shipping issues instantly.
• Cost Control & Audit: Maintain strict oversight of shipping budgets, invoice audits, and landed-cost calculations without compromising delivery speed.

Requirements

• 12+ years of hands-on experience in global shipping, freight operations, and international logistics (preferably in high-volume e-commerce, retail, or consumer goods).
• Proven Executive Leadership: Extensive experience managing, scaling, and structuring logistics teams, defining operational KPIs, and driving team accountability.
• Operational & Tracking Mastery: Deep expertise in building tracking systems, monitoring global freight movements in real-time, and troubleshooting transit bottlenecks.
• Multi-Modal & Regulatory Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of air/ocean/parcel shipping, international trade regulations, customs clearance processes, and broker management.
• Strong Commercial & Negotiation Skills: Track record of managing carrier SLAs, negotiating competitive rates, and holding logistics partners accountable for performance.
• Tech & Analytical Proficiency: Advanced skills in ERP systems, TMS, logistics tracking software, and Excel/Sheets for operational data analysis.
• Hands-on Problem Solver: Thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with a relentless focus on execution and continuous improvement.
• Languages: Native/Fluent English (written and verbal) is required for managing global carriers and internal teams.
