Why Argu Exists

The physical world can't be put into buckets. Reality is complex and unknown.

Argu is building an Agentic Operating System for the physical world. Our platform transforms existing camera networks into programmable Vision Agents that can understand, investigate and act.

Backed by leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with global Tier-1 paying customers, we're building a small engineering team to solve unusually difficult problems at the intersection of distributed systems, real-time processing, computer vision and AI.

The Role

We're looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer to take hands-on ownership of some of the hardest technical problems at the core of Argu.

You will research problems, challenge assumptions, design solutions, make technical decisions, and most importantly, build and ship them yourself - FAST.

You will occasionally work directly with customers and real-world deployments, alongside a small team finding creative solutions to complex technical problems.

You will have significant influence on the product's architecture, capabilities and technical direction while remaining deeply responsible for implementation.

Some of the problems you may work on:

• How do we efficiently process hundreds or thousands of simultaneous live video streams in real time?
• How should workloads be distributed across CPU, GPU and memory under strict compute constraints?
• How do we orchestrate multiple AI models and agents across large real-time deployments?
• How do we turn experimental AI capabilities into reliable production systems?
• How do we build infrastructure that works across cloud, edge and fully on-prem environments?
• Where are the real bottlenecks in an existing architecture, and how do we eliminate them?

What You'll Do

• Design and build core components of Argu's backend and real-time AI platform.
• Own complex technical problems end-to-end, from investigation and design through implementation and production.
• Build new product capabilities from requirements or ideas into working systems.
• Identify architectural bottlenecks and improve system throughput, latency, reliability and compute efficiency.
• Build infrastructure for deploying and operating AI workloads.
• Work closely with Research, Product and Solutions teams to turn new capabilities into production features.
• Make technical and architectural decisions with direct impact on the product.
• Write and ship production code continuously while helping raise the engineering standard across the team.
• Work with real customer environments and constraints, not only abstract technical requirements.

What We're Looking For

We care much more about engineering ability than keyword matching.

You should have:

• A strong track record of building substantial production software systems.
• Exceptional problem-solving and systems-thinking ability.
• Excellent hands-on software engineering skills.
• Strong Python experience.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture and distributed or high-throughput systems.
• Experience owning complex systems in production.
• The ability to enter an unfamiliar technical problem, investigate it quickly, make good decisions and execute.
• Strong understanding of APIs, databases, concurrency, messaging and event-driven systems.
• An AI-native development workflow. You actively use modern coding agents and AI tools to dramatically increase your development speed and output without compromising engineering judgment.
• Strong communication skills, intellectual honesty and a low-ego approach to working with other engineers.

Typically this means significant experience as a senior software engineer, but we care more about what you have built and how you think than the number of years on your CV.
