Full Stack Engineer

About the role:

We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on Senior Full Stack Developer to take a key role in building Ontopo's next-generation core product.

Our current platform has evolved over the past 15 years. This is not simply a rewrite of the existing system. We are rethinking how the product should be built today - using modern architecture, everything we have learned about our users and business, and new AI capabilities.

You will take ideas from concept to production, design architecture, make significant technical decisions and build end-to-end across backend and frontend, with a slight backend orientation.

You will work closely with the VP R&D and play an active part in product and technology decisions. We are looking for someone who brings strong opinions and judgment, challenges assumptions and knows how to turn ideas into working products.

This is a highly hands-on individual contributor role, not a people management position.

Relevant backgrounds may include Senior Full Stack Developer, Senior Backend Developer or hands-on Tech Lead.

What you'll do:

• Build the next generation of Ontopo's core platform from the ground up
• Own complex features and systems from architecture through production
• Develop end-to-end across backend and frontend
• Make architecture and system design decisions
• Participate actively in product and technical decision-making
• Integrate AI capabilities into the new platform and use modern AI tools throughout the development process
• Build scalable, reliable systems supporting millions of users

What we're looking for:

• Strong hands-on experience building complex production systems
• Proven experience taking significant systems or products from design through implementation and production
• Strong backend experience with Node.js
• Strong frontend experience with React and/or Vue.js
• Strong architecture and system design capabilities
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems and AWS
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Strong product thinking, independence and end-to-end ownership
• Significant hands-on experience with modern AI development tools

Previous experience as a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager is welcome, as long as you are looking for a deeply hands-on role.
