Software Architect

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Software Architect to lead the design and evolution of Cust2Mate’s end-to-end software architecture. In this role, you will define scalable, secure, and high-performance architectures across edge devices, cloud services, retailer integrations, data pipelines, and consumer-facing applications.

You will work closely with product, engineering, data, embedded, QA, and business stakeholders to create robust systems that support real-time retail operations, smart cart functionality, payment flows, personalization, and data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities:

• Define and own the software architecture strategy across cloud, backend, edge, and integration layers.
• Design scalable distributed systems that support thousands of connected smart carts and real-time store operations.
• Lead architectural decisions for microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and data platforms.
• Establish best practices for reliability, performance, security, observability, and maintainability.
• Drive architecture for integrations with retailers’ POS, payment systems, loyalty platforms, inventory systems, and third-party services.
• Collaborate with embedded, computer vision, AI, and product teams to ensure seamless interaction between hardware and software components.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the full development lifecycle, from requirements and design to deployment and production support.
• Review system designs and code to ensure alignment with architectural standards.
• Identify technical risks early and propose pragmatic, scalable solutions.
• Mentor senior engineers and development teams on architecture principles, design patterns, and engineering excellence.
• Support cloud infrastructure planning, CI/CD, DevOps maturity, and production readiness.
• Balance long-term platform vision with short-term business and delivery needs.

Requirements:

• 12+ years of software development experience, including significant experience in software architecture or technical leadership roles.
• Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems in production environments.
• Strong expertise in backend architecture, cloud-native systems, APIs, databases, and asynchronous/event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Deep understanding of microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience designing secure systems with strong attention to authentication, authorization, data privacy, and payment-related considerations.
• Solid knowledge of system integration in enterprise or retail environments.
• Experience working with real-time systems, IoT, connected devices, or edge computing — strong advantage.
• Familiarity with data platforms, analytics pipelines, and personalization systems — advantage.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced product company.
• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; M.Sc. is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in retail-tech, fintech, smart devices, or omnichannel commerce platforms.
• Background working with payment flows, loyalty systems, or in-store digital experiences.
• Familiarity with computer vision, sensor-based systems, or embedded-software integration.
• Experience building high-availability systems used in mission-critical customer environments.
