Chief Engineer | Major Medical Center

We are looking for an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering, Infrastructure and Maintenance function of a large, complex medical center in Central Israel.

This is a senior engineering leadership role with responsibility for a highly complex, 24/7 operational environment that includes inpatient departments, operating rooms, emergency facilities, laboratories, public areas and critical infrastructure systems.

The role combines engineering leadership, complex construction and infrastructure projects, maintenance operations, people management, contractor management and significant budget responsibility.

This is not a general Facilities Management position. We are looking for a qualified engineer who has managed complex, infrastructure-intensive environments and understands both major engineering projects and the ongoing operation of mission-critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Overall responsibility for the medical center's engineering, infrastructure and maintenance operations.
• Lead a multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance organization of approximately 40 employees, including professional managers, team leaders, engineers and technicians.
• Manage major construction, renovation and infrastructure projects in a continuously operating environment.
• Oversee complex electromechanical and building systems, including electrical systems, HVAC, water, plumbing, backup power, control systems and other critical infrastructure.
• Lead projects involving dense and highly integrated infrastructure, from planning and design review through execution, commissioning and handover.
• Manage contractors, consultants, planners, suppliers and service providers, including negotiations, contracts, performance monitoring, quality control and budget oversight.
• Manage annual engineering, maintenance and project budgets of tens of millions of NIS.
• Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance, regulatory compliance, safety and operational continuity.
• Work closely with hospital management and provide engineering services to hundreds of internal stakeholders across clinical and administrative functions.
• Lead improvements, upgrades and modernization of existing infrastructure while maintaining uninterrupted operations.
• Manage multiple priorities, emergencies and complex engineering challenges in a demanding 24/7 environment.

Requirements:

• B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Civil/Building Engineering - required.
• Registration in the Israeli Engineers and Architects Register - required.
• Extensive professional experience in engineering, infrastructure, maintenance and/or complex construction environments.
• Significant managerial experience leading multidisciplinary engineering, maintenance or technical teams, including managers and team leaders.
• Proven experience managing complex construction and infrastructure projects with a high concentration of electromechanical systems.
• Strong experience managing contractors, suppliers and external consultants, including negotiations, commercial control and performance management.
• Experience managing budgets of tens of millions of NIS.
• Strong understanding of building systems, infrastructure, maintenance methodologies and engineering documentation.
• Ability to read and review engineering plans, specifications, bills of quantities and technical documentation.
• Experience working in a large, operationally intensive organization where engineering continuity is business-critical.
• Strong management, decision-making, negotiation and organizational skills.
• High service orientation and the ability to work effectively with a large and diverse internal customer base.
• Ability to perform effectively in a highly intensive environment requiring responsiveness, resilience and strong personal ownership.

Relevant Industry Background:

Experience in hospitals or large medical centers is a significant advantage.

We are also interested in senior engineers from other mission-critical, infrastructure-intensive environments, such as:

• Pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities
• Semiconductor and advanced manufacturing plants
• Data centers and other mission-critical facilities
• Airports and aviation infrastructure
• Large industrial or production campuses
• Large institutional campuses with complex engineering infrastructure
• Other 24/7 environments combining complex construction, electromechanical systems and large-scale maintenance operations

Candidates whose experience is primarily in standard office Facilities Management or construction project management without responsibility for ongoing complex engineering operations are less likely to fit this role.
