Electro Optics R&D Team Lead

A leading defense technology company is looking for an Electro Optics R&D Team Lead to lead the development, evaluation, and integration of advanced electro-optical components and subsystems.

The company develops multidisciplinary products that combine optics, electro-optics, mechanics, electronics, and precision engineering for demanding defense, security, and operational environments. This is a highly impactful R&D leadership role, responsible for defining technical requirements, selecting and validating critical electro-optical components, and ensuring their successful integration into complex products.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electro-optics engineering team within the R&D department, including task allocation, professional guidance, progress tracking, recruitment, and team development.
• Define technical requirements for critical electro-optical components according to product and system requirements.
• Own component selection, characterization, and adaptation to performance, reliability, cost, and product needs.
• Support design and integration processes of electro-optical components into subsystems and full systems.
• Solve complex engineering challenges in optics and electro-optics.
• Manage ongoing technical communication with suppliers in Israel and abroad.
• Lead technology evaluations, market surveys, supplier comparisons, and technical assessments.
• Support co-development processes with suppliers and subcontractors when required.
• Manage technical specifications and ensure supplier compliance with engineering requirements.
• Define test methods and procedures for electro-optical components and subsystems.
• Plan, execute, and analyze experiments, characterization tests, and validation processes.
• Define requirements for test equipment and laboratory infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electro-Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field - must.
• At least 5 years of proven experience developing electro-optical components or systems - must.
• Deep knowledge in one or more of the following areas: lasers, day/night optics, displays, or thermal engines - must.
• Experience working with international suppliers - must.
• At least 2 years of proven experience supporting optical design processes with subcontractors - must.
• High level of English - must.
